Francisco Rebajes Pendant/Brooch

$25.00

An amazing find! A whimsical abstract pendant/brooch/pin that is in pristine condition with a bit of a patina that just makes it that much more unique. This does not have a pin on the back, so one would need to be added, or used as a pendant on a necklace

The artist has an amazing story, and is well worth the read. When he was 16 he moved to New York from the Dominican Republic by himself with $300 (about $5,000). He was in his friends basement and started making animal sculptures from cans in scrap metal and in 1932. He placed his wares out on the ironing board at an outdoor festival and our Director of the Whitney Museum of American Art purchase his entire collection for $30! He opened a shop in Greenwich Village with a focus on art and jewelry that were affordable. Everything he sold at that time was less than $10 such an amazing life story, and beautiful pieces of art!
